Transmission Line Linear Reserve (Bales Street) Dog Off Leash Area

The Transmission Line Linear Reserve off-leash area runs along the powerline easement behind Bales Street in Mount Waverley, on land managed by the City of Monash. It is a plain, useful kind of park: an open grass strip with concrete paths and scattered trees, where locals drop in for a daily off-leash run without driving anywhere. Because it is unfenced and open to the street, it rewards dogs with solid recall and owners who like to keep an eye on the whole space at once.

The dog setup

There is no fence and no gate. The reserve is a linear strip along the easement, split where Bales Street crosses it, with a sloped grassy section on one side and a gentler rise on the other. Concrete walking paths run through the length of it, including a path that drops down toward Pamela Street. The long, open layout is the real feature: you can see other dogs coming from a good distance, which makes introductions easy to manage or avoid.

Monash off-leash rules apply. Dogs can run free under effective voice or hand control, but you must carry a lead at all times and stay in sight of your dog. Leash up within 20 metres of playgrounds, BBQ areas or organised events, keep your dog on a short lead within 10 metres of the major shared paths, and carry bags to pick up after them.

Worth knowing

Amenities are basic. There is a shared path, a few benches along the way and waste bins, but no dedicated dog water station, no agility gear and no enclosed area for nervous dogs. If your dog needs a fully fenced space, one of the other dog parks in Victoria will suit better. For a straightforward local stretch on grass, it does the job.

Max: No fence and streets close by, so keep recall solid and clip the lead on near the road ends.

Getting there and parking

The reserve sits at 49 Bales Street, Mount Waverley. There is no car park; use unrestricted street parking on Bales Street and the surrounding residential streets, reached via Blackburn Road or Forster Road off High Street Road. Buses run along High Street Road and Blackburn Road if you are coming without a car.
