Montrose Foreshore Community Park

Montrose Foreshore Community Park runs along the Brooker Highway on the Derwent River in Montrose, north of Hobart, and it is one of those reserves that earns its local following through simple things: river views, a foreshore walking track, a boardwalk, barbecues and a bike track that keeps kids busy while the dogs get their outing. For dogs, the council's position is straightforward. Dogs are welcome on leash through the general reserve areas, so a lead stays on for the foreshore walk and the open grass. Some boardwalk sections carry restrictions, so read the signage where the timber path starts before committing to the full waterfront route. The Brooker Highway runs alongside the reserve, which makes access easy from Hobart or Glenorchy but means road noise is part of the ambience and parking is off the highway rather than on it. Disabled access is listed among the park's features, and the combination of walking track, boardwalk and bike path means you can loop a short circuit or stretch it out along the foreshore. Watch for cyclists on shared paths and keep the lead short where the track narrows.
