Saint Hugo’s

Saint Hugo's is an all-day brunch spot set inside a repurposed 150-year-old church on Main Road in Montrose, on Hobart's northern fringe, and the outdoor terrace takes a genuinely welcoming approach to dogs. The building is a local landmark and part of the appeal, so it is worth a stop even before the food arrives.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome on the sheltered outdoor terrace and courtyard, not inside the heritage building. The outdoor area is set up for comfort, with heaters and blankets for cooler days, and staff are known to bring out water bowls and the odd treat for visiting dogs. Keep your dog leashed and settled near the table, because tables fill quickly and the terrace is busy at brunch hours.

The menu

The kitchen runs an all-day brunch list built around corn fritters, eggs benedict, halloumi and french toast, with granola bowls and a solid coffee and tea list alongside, and there are vegetarian and vegan options. Hours are 7am to 3pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 3pm on weekends.

Getting there and parking

The cafe is at 491 Main Road, Montrose, on the main route through the suburb. Parking is limited to the street out front and nearby side streets, so arrive early on weekends if you want a terrace table with the dog.

Close by with the dogs

The Montrose foreshore on the Derwent River is a short drive away for a stretch of flat waterside walking, and the Chapel Street Reserve fenced dog park in neighbouring Glenorchy gives your dog a proper off-leash run.
