Redleap Recreation Reserve Dog Off-Leash Area

Redleap Recreation Reserve's off-leash area sits west of Peter Hopper Lake in Mill Park, part of a 6.2-hectare reserve with a lake, walking tracks, a playground and an oval. It is a genuine off-leash zone, not just a park with a policy, and the northern car park puts you a short walk from the gate.

The rules: dogs must be under effective voice control and return on command. They must not bother, threaten or approach other people or animals. The off-leash zone is bounded, dogs need to be back on lead in the surrounding sections of the reserve, including along Peter Hopper Lake and the connecting walking paths. Keep dogs away from the lake edge, it is a wildlife area and the council asks owners to manage that boundary themselves.

What's there: a drinking fountain in the off-leash area, a bridge over a dry creek bed linking the car park to the dog zone, public toilets, and BBQ and picnic facilities in the wider reserve. Paths are well maintained and shaded in parts.

Getting there: the main car park is at the northern end off Redleap Avenue, Mill Park. From there you cross the bridge over the dry creek bed into the off-leash zone. Buses run along nearby Centenary Drive and Plenty Road, check Public Transport Victoria for current routes and timetables since services change.

Nearby with the dogs: the Mill Park Village shopping strip on Centenary Drive has a handful of cafes with outdoor seating that tend to be relaxed about dogs, worth confirming on the day. Plenty Valley Motor Inn on Plenty Road is a nearby option if you need dog-friendly accommodation, but always confirm the pet policy and any fees directly before booking.

Weekday mornings or early afternoons are the quiet window. Weekends and the 7 to 9am and 4 to 6pm stretches get busy with regulars, so if your dog is nervous around crowds of other dogs, aim outside those hours.
