Melaleuca Reserve is a fully fenced off-leash park on Melaleuca Crescent in Langwarrin, big enough and well treed enough that it is one of the most reliable fenced runs in the area, with water taps and picnic tables on site.

The rules. Dogs need to be under effective voice control even though the park is fenced, and must be leashed on the way in and out. Close gates behind you. Poo bags are supplied but you are still responsible for cleaning up.

What's there. Picnic tables and bench seats, water taps with dog bowls, poo bag dispensers and bins, and enough tree cover for shade on a hot day. Concrete paths at the entrances mean you are not wading through mud just to get in after rain.

Getting there. Off Southgateway, with street parking on Melaleuca Crescent. There is no dedicated car park, so on a busy weekend expect to walk a short block from wherever you can find a spot.

the fencing is solid, but still do a gate check before letting anyone off lead. Busy weekends bring a lot of dogs through those gates at once.

When to go. Weekday evenings and mid-morning are quietest; Saturday and Sunday mornings draw the crowds. After rain the ground turns muddy in patches, so a towel in the car is worth it.
