Melaleuca Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Melaleuca Reserve is a fully fenced off-leash dog park at 14 Melaleuca Crescent in Langwarrin, run under Frankston City Council rules. It is a long, secure block of open grass ringed by mature trees, with an internal walking path and double-gate entries at both ends, and it has become the reliable fenced run for the suburb since opening.

The rules at the gate

Two gated airlock entries serve the park, one on Melaleuca Crescent and the other on Southgateway, so you can clip leads on and off safely inside the entry. Even though the whole reserve is fenced, council rules still require dogs to be under effective control and you to carry a leash. Greyhounds must stay on lead. Close both gates behind you, and use the bins at the entries for waste.

Max: the fencing is solid, but do a gate check before anyone goes off lead. Weekend mornings push a lot of dogs through those airlocks at once.

What's on site

Water taps with drinking bowls sit at both entry points, so hydration is covered year round. A covered picnic shelter with a large table sits near the central grass area, with bench seats dotted along the internal path for supervising from the shade. The mix of open field and tree cover means there is sun in winter and shade through summer, and the grass run is long enough for a proper sprint rather than a shuffle.

Getting there and parking

The reserve sits off Southgateway, with the main entry on Melaleuca Crescent. There is no dedicated car park, so plan on street parking along Melaleuca Crescent and the surrounding residential streets. It is flat and pram-friendly from the kerb to the gate.

Worth knowing

After heavy rain, low patches of the reserve turn muddy, though the sloped sections drain better and the entries are concreted, so you are not wading to get in. Weekday evenings and mid-mornings are the quiet windows, while Saturday and Sunday mornings bring the crowd. A towel in the boot earns its keep in winter.
