Kingsthorpe Dog Park

Kingsthorpe Dog Park is the fenced off-leash enclosure inside Rosalie Walk Park, off Talisker Street in Kingsthorpe, west of Toowoomba. For a town this size the fenced boundary is the whole draw: a small, secure space where a dog can be properly let off the leash without the drive into Toowoomba, with walking paths and a skate park nearby if your dog likes some ambient activity.

The dog setup

Off-leash applies only inside the fence; everywhere else in Rosalie Walk Park, dogs stay on leash until they are through the gate. Toowoomba Regional Council rules still apply inside the enclosure: effective voice or visual control at all times, dogs wearing a collar and current registration tag, immediate removal of any dog that menaces or worries people or animals, and waste picked up with the bags and bins provided. Restricted or dangerous breeds must stay muzzled and leashed in public areas regardless of the off-leash zone, and it is worth confirming current restricted-breed rules with the council.

Max: do a full lap on-lead first and check the gate latches, then unclip. The fence line is your friend here.

Worth knowing

Facilities are modest: benches and some shaded, covered seating for owners, and no confirmed water tap on site, so bring your own. Weekend mornings and weekday late afternoons draw the regulars, while mid-week mornings and cold or wet days usually leave the enclosure to you, which matters for a nervous dog.

Getting there and parking

Access is off Goombungee-Kingsthorpe Road via Talisker Street, with street-side parking near the entrance. There is no practical public transport, so plan to drive.

Close by with the dogs

Kingsthorpe itself is light on dog-friendly dining, so most owners head toward Toowoomba afterwards: Cafe 63 Wilsonton is on the way in, and the Wilsonson Heights Dog Park is a bigger fenced option if the local enclosure is busy. The Queens Park Dog Off Leash Area covers a full city-park outing, and Kingsthorpe Hotel Motel is in town for overnight stays.
