Hays Paddock Dog Off Leash Area

Hays Paddock is a large, open reserve at 27 Longstaff Street, Kew East, with a substantial informal off-leash area across its sports grounds and parkland. A gravel path follows Glass Creek through the middle of the park, and it is one of the more popular off-leash spots in Boroondara.

The rules. Dogs can run off-leash across the sports grounds and surrounding parkland, but must be leashed near the children's playground, around the wetlands (to protect birdlife), and near the archery club when it is in use. Keep your dog under voice control at all times and carry bags for the provided bins.

What's there. Two car parks (one off Longstaff Street, one off Lister Street), water taps with dog bowls, picnic tables, shelters, BBQs, gravel paths along Glass Creek, and a toilet block near the playground.

Getting there. Close to the M3 Freeway and Kilby Road, with parking at both entrances. Several bus routes run along Burke Road and Belford Road, a short walk from the park.

Nearby. The Kew East shopping strip on High Street has several cafes within a short drive or walk, many with outdoor seating.

Sunday afternoons, Monday evenings, and Tuesday daytime tend to be the busiest. Sunday evenings and weekday afternoons are quieter. If the main sports field is crowded, the stretch along Glass Creek usually has more room to spread out.
