Willsmere Park is a large, mostly unfenced off-leash reserve on Willow Grove in Kew East, bordering the Green Acres Golf Club near the Yarra River. Open lawns, concrete paths, and shade trees make it a popular spot for dogs to socialise and stretch their legs.

The rules. Dogs can be off-leash at any time, except during organised sport training or matches on the ovals. Because the park is unfenced, keep your dog under effective voice control. Leash up within 5 metres of the playground and BBQ areas, and whenever organised sport is being played. Waste bags and bins are provided.

What's there. A small car park off Willow Grove, drinking fountains for dogs, park benches, some shade trees, and an on-site playground for families.

Getting there. Accessible from the Eastern Freeway and High Street, with parking on Willow Grove. The 48 and 109 trams run along High Street and Studley Park Road, a short walk from the park.

Nearby. Adeney Milk Bar Cafe on Adeney Avenue and Willo Cafe on Willsmere Road both have outdoor seating and are popular with local dog owners. The Bean Thief on High Street, Kew East has a covered outdoor area.

Pepsi's takegolden retriever
because the park is unfenced and backs onto a golf course, it is worth a quick scan for stray golf balls before letting your dog off the lead near the boundary.

Weekday mornings from 7.30am to 9am and evenings from 4.30pm to 6.30pm are the busiest, along with weekend mid-mornings. For a quieter walk, head along the paths that follow the Yarra River away from the main oval.
