Howrah Dog Park

Howrah Dog Park sits inside Wentworth Park on the Eastern Shore, right next to Howrah Beach, so a lap of the grass usually turns into a paddle. It is one of the more useful combos in Clarence: open space to burn off energy, then sand and water a few steps away.

The rules. Wentworth Park itself allows dogs under effective control, but keep clear of playground equipment and any sports fields in use. Howrah Beach runs the standard Clarence summer rule: from 1 December to 1 March, dogs are banned from the sand between 10am and 6pm. Outside that window, and outside the summer months altogether, dogs can be off-leash on the beach as long as they are genuinely under control, meaning they come back when called and are not bothering other beachgoers. Dogs are not allowed on the dune vegetation at any time.

What's there. The main carpark off Howrah Road has waste bag dispensers and bins, and there are more bins through the park. Wentworth Park has public toilets and some shaded picnic spots, though there is little shade right on the beach itself at midday.

Getting there. Park in the Wentworth Park carpark off Howrah Road; it fills fast on warm weekends, so Howrah Road itself is the backup. Metro buses run along Howrah Road, and there is a coastal footpath linking through to Bellerive Beach if you want to extend the walk.

Nearby with the dogs. Cocomo + Co at Bellerive Quay is a short drive away and dog-friendly with outdoor seating, a solid stop before or after the park.

Early morning or evening is the easiest time to visit, especially in summer when the 10am to 6pm beach ban is in force. Good for dogs that are reliable off-leash and owners happy to time their visit around the tide.
