Cocomo+Co

Cocomo+Co sits right on the Bellerive Boardwalk, looking over the marina, and it is one of the eastern shore's most genuinely dog-welcoming cafes. Dogs are welcome throughout the venue, not just at a token outdoor table, and staff have a habit of greeting regular pups by name. If your boardwalk circuit ends with coffee, this is the natural full stop.

The dog setup

Well-behaved dogs are welcome in both the indoor and outdoor areas, which is unusual for a cafe and handy when a Hobart southerly rolls in. The covered alfresco has a northerly aspect over the water, so it catches the sun even in the middle of winter, and staff are known for topping up water on request. Keep your dog on lead and settled beside the table; the boardwalk path past the tables gets steady foot traffic, especially on weekend mornings.

It runs on walk-ins only, so no booking ahead, just arrive and take a table. If the sun is out, aim for the alfresco; if it is blowing a gale, the couches near the fireplace inside are the coziest seat in Bellerive, dog included.

The vibe

This is a licensed all-day cafe: strong coffee in the morning, cocktails and local wines by afternoon, and a breakfast and lunch menu that runs from 7am to 4pm daily. The room is casual and social rather than quiet, with a mix of walkers, ferry passengers and locals settling in for a long lunch. The view across the Derwent to Hobart does most of the decorating.

Getting there and parking

You will find it on the Bellerive Boardwalk (7018), with parking along Cambridge Road and near the Bellerive Ferry Terminal. Access is flat and easy straight off the boardwalk path, and the ferry from Hobart's Sullivans Cove drops you a short stroll away if you would rather leave the car behind.

Close by with the dogs

The boardwalk itself is the warm-up: a flat, scenic stretch that runs past Bellerive Beach and the yacht club. For a proper run-off, South Street Reserve Fenced Dog Park is a few minutes' drive, while Howrah Dog Park sits a little further along the shore.
