What it is. The Willmott Drive off-leash area is an open, grassy stretch of the D1 Drainage Reserve at 43 Willmott Drive, Hoppers Crossing, managed by Wyndham City Council. It is a quiet neighbourhood spot rather than a marquee park, used mostly by nearby residents.

The rules. This is the load-bearing detail here: the reserve is off-leash except from 8:00am to 9:30am and 3:00pm to 4:30pm on weekdays, when dogs must be on-leash to suit nearby school times. It is unfenced, so you need reliable recall and must carry a lead at all times. Keep dogs on-leash within 5 metres of any playground equipment, and clean up after them.

What's there. Flat, mostly open grass with scattered mature trees for shade, council dog-bag dispensers, and basic bench seating. There is no dedicated dog water point, so bring your own bowl and water. Being unpaved grass, it can get muddy and waterlogged after heavy Melbourne rain.

Getting there. Street parking is generally available along Willmott Drive and adjacent streets. Hoppers Crossing Station on the Werribee line is the nearest train hub, with local bus route 417 serving the Willmott Drive area.

Mind the weekday on-leash windows around school drop-off and pick-up. If you want an off-leash run, aim for mid-morning between 10 and 2, or after 5pm.

When to go. Mid-morning or late afternoon on a weekday is quietest and keeps you clear of the on-leash windows. After heavy rain, expect mud.
