Willmott Drive - Derrimut Road D1 Drainage Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

The Willmott Drive off-leash area is an open, grassy stretch of the D1 Drainage Reserve at 43 Willmott Drive, Hoppers Crossing, managed by Wyndham City Council. It is a quiet neighbourhood run rather than a marquee dog park, used mostly by locals who know the school-hour rules.

The dog setup

This is an unfenced, linear reserve, so it suits dogs with reliable recall rather than flight risks. The rule that matters most: it is off-leash except on weekdays from 8am to 9.30am and again from 3pm to 4.30pm, when leads go on to match nearby school traffic. Even off-leash, you must carry a lead and keep effective voice or hand control, and dogs stay on-lead within 5 metres of any playground equipment.

The ground is flat and mostly open grass with scattered mature trees for shade. Council bag dispensers and bins sit at intervals along the reserve, but there is no dedicated dog water point, so bring your own bowl and water.

Worth knowing

The reserve drains a catchment, and being unpaved grass it can turn muddy and waterlogged after heavy Melbourne rain. If your dog likes to chase, note the corridor runs alongside suburban streets, so keep an eye on any drift toward Willmott Drive or the busier Derrimut Road end.

Max: the weekday on-leash windows are the whole game here. Arrive between 10am and 2pm, or after 5pm, and you get the reserve to yourself.

Getting there

Street parking runs along Willmott Drive directly beside the reserve, with easy entry without navigating the interior streets. Hoppers Crossing station on the Werribee line is the nearest rail hub, and local bus route 417 serves the Willmott Drive area.

Close by with the dogs

If you would rather have a fence between your dog and the road, the Cambridge Reserve dog off-leash area is the better-enclosed option nearby, and the Mossfiel section of the D1 Drainage Reserve offers more of the same linear off-leash corridor.
