Saltwater Fenced Dog Park

Saltwater Fenced Dog Park sits inside Saltwater Park off Helensvale Road in Hope Island, and it is the northern Gold Coast's pick for a fully fenced off-leash run with a lake to swim in. The draw is simple: secure fencing with double gates, separate zones for big and small dogs, and water access that most Gold Coast dog parks do not offer.

The rules

Dogs run free inside the fenced boundary under City of Gold Coast rules, and must be leashed and under effective control everywhere outside it. Dogs are prohibited north of the pond and in the playground areas, fines apply for non-compliance, and you need to carry bags and clean up every time. Keep a close eye on dogs around the water edge.

What's there

Separate large-dog and small-dog zones, basic agility equipment, shade trees and shaded seating for owners. Drinking water is on site, but there are no toilets, so plan around that. The car park sits directly off Helensvale Road next to the gate.

The water

The lake and creek access is the main event, and it is tidal, so swimming is best around high tide. The ground develops muddy patches after rain and through the wet season. Bring a towel, because a keen swimmer will need one.

Pepsi: the water is the whole reason to come, but check the tide first. Low tide can leave you with more mud than swim.

Getting there

The address is Lot 102 Helensvale Road, Hope Island. Parking is right beside the park. Bus stops on the nearby main roads get you close, but nothing stops at the gate, so driving is easier.

When to go

Weekday mornings and late afternoons plus all weekend are the busiest windows. Mid-morning on a weekday gives you the most room, and timing the tide matters more than timing the crowd.
