Jack Marks Reserve Fenced Dog Park

Jack Marks Reserve gives Highgate a fully fenced off-leash dog park a block back from Beaufort Street. It is an approved City of Vincent dog exercise area, and the combination of secure fencing and an inner-city position makes it a reliable pick for a quick off-leash run without driving anywhere.

The dog setup

The reserve is a designated off-leash area, and dogs must stay under effective voice control at all times. There is no separate zone for small dogs, so read the mix on the ground before unclipping a nervous or smaller pet. Benches and mature shade trees ring the enclosure, water fountains are on site, and dog waste bags are usually stocked.

A fenced children's playground sits alongside the dog space, which suits families but means keeping an eye on the gates. Walk the boundary first: there are reports of minor gaps in the fencing, and the grass surface can get muddy after rain or a busy weekend.

Max: Fenced does not mean sealed. Do a lap of the boundary and clock any gaps before you let a small or bolty dog off the lead.

Worth knowing

The reserve doubles as a bookable community space, so private events or hire can limit public access from time to time. Mid-morning on a weekday is the calm window; evenings and weekend mornings belong to the local regulars.

Getting there and parking

The reserve is at 127-129 Bulwer Street, Highgate, near the corner of Beaufort and Bulwer Streets. Free street parking lines Bulwer Street and the surrounding residential blocks, and bus stops along Beaufort Street are a five to seven minute walk away. Public toilets are available at the reserve.

Close by with the dogs

The Beaufort Street strip is minutes away on foot. Blacksmith Highgate keeps sidewalk tables where dogs are welcome, and Lord Street Social does coffee and pup cups a short walk off the park on Lord Street.

For a bigger session, the Inglewood fenced dog park is a short drive north for a second enclosed run.
