Gordonvale Dog Park is a small, open exercise area on Klarwein Close, run by Cairns Regional Council for local off-leash exercise. The rules. Dogs must be on lead entering and leaving the area, then off lead once inside under voice control. Owners are expected to clean up after their dogs and remove any dog showing aggression straight away. Because the space is unfenced, it is on the honesty system rather than a locked enclosure, so keep an eye on the boundary.

What's there. Open grassed space for running and play, with some shaded spots to rest. Facilities are basic: bring your own water and bags, and do not expect agility gear or a dedicated fenced yard.

Getting there. The park sits at 19-23 Klarwein Close, Gordonvale, just off the Bruce Highway/Gillies Range Road area behind the town centre. Street parking on Klarwein Close or the surrounding residential streets is the norm; there is no dedicated car park.

Nearby with the dogs. CMCA Greenpatch Campground, a short drive away in Gordonvale, takes dogs on lead for overnight stays if you are passing through. A couple of local cafes around town have outdoor seating, though it is worth confirming dog policy on the day.

When to go. Early morning or late afternoon beats the tropical heat and tends to be quieter. As a neighbourhood park rather than a destination, it rarely gets crowded, which makes it a good option for dogs that find busier parks overwhelming.
