CMCA Greenpatch Campground

CMCA Greenpatch Campground is a budget camping and RV park run by the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia at Gordonvale, south of Cairns. It is a straightforward overnight stop for self-contained travellers rolling through far north Queensland with a dog on board, priced for members rather than holiday-park guests.

Dogs at Greenpatch

Dogs are welcome, with a maximum of two pets per site. They must be on a lead no longer than two metres whenever they are outside your vehicle, they are not permitted near food preparation areas, and you are responsible for cleaning up after them. There is no separate pet fee listed, but standard camping fees apply: around $3 per site per night for CMCA members and $10 for non-members, plus $2 per adult, with a maximum stay of seven days. The setup

This is a no-frills ground: non-powered sites and RV parking, a dump point, water access, free toilets, and coin-operated hot showers in the adjacent public amenities block. Vehicles do not have to be fully self-contained, but the park suits campers and RV travellers more than anyone chasing resort facilities. No personal campfires are allowed, and generators may only run between 8am and 7pm, capped at four hours a day and two hours at a time, with someone present at the rig.

Getting there

Gordonvale sits on the southern approach to Cairns along the Bruce Highway, so the campground works well as a one-night staging stop before the city or the drive further up the coast. It is walking distance to town for fuel and supplies.

Close by with the dogs

For a proper off-leash run, Gordonvale Dog Park on Klarwein Close is the unfenced council exercise area a short drive away, best for dogs with reliable recall. Cairns Regional Council also maintains a fully fenced option at Pyramid Parklands Gujura on Fisher Road if your dog needs a secure enclosure.
