Scentral Bark Fenced Dog Park

Scentral Bark on Austin Grove is the newest and most polished of Googong's three fenced dog parks, open around the clock and split into separate enclosures for large and small dogs. In a township that was purpose built with dog owners in mind, this is the one that handles the size mismatch problem rather than leaving you to manage it.

The dog setup

Two secure fenced sections, one for large dogs and one for small, both grassed rather than woodchipped, with gentle hills to run and agility equipment in each: hurdles and weave poles for dogs that want a job to do. Water bubblers with bowls sit in the park, bags are provided at the entrances, and bins are close at hand. Benches line the edges and concrete paths make for cleaner access on wet days.

The rules are the standard Queanbeyan-Palerang package, applied properly here: off leash inside the fences only, dogs under the control of a competent person at all times, restricted breeds and declared dangerous or menacing dogs not permitted, waste picked up straight away, and every dog wearing a collar with current contact details. The entry gates are hydraulic, so take a second to confirm they have secured behind you before you unsnap the lead.

Pepsi: The separate small-dog section is a nice touch if your dog gets overwhelmed by bigger, boisterous playmates. You still get a proper run without the chaos.

Worth knowing

The trees are still young, so shade is patchy across both sections. On a summer afternoon bring sun protection and plan around it, or shift to early morning. If your dog is a determined digger or jumper, keep an eye on the fence line despite the good enclosure.

Getting there and parking

The park is on Austin Grove within the Googong development, off Googong Road, with plenty of street parking along the frontage. Qcity Transit buses run from Queanbeyan and Canberra into the township, and it is a short walk from the nearest stop.

Close by with the dogs

Googong's other two fenced parks, Barkley and Rockley, are both close enough to make a circuit of the township, and Kinlyside Avenue Fenced Dog Park sits just over in Jerrabomberra. Weekday evenings from about 5pm to 7pm and weekend mornings from 8am to 11am are busiest, so middays suit a shy dog.
