Speargrass Community Park

Speargrass Community Park is a purpose-built, fully fenced off-lead dog park at 29 Speargrass Road in South Jerrabomberra (Tralee), just over the border from Canberra's south. Its defining feature is the bone-shaped layout with separated zones for small and large dogs, on irrigated grass big enough for a proper run rather than a token enclosure.

The dog setup

Inside the fenced boundary dogs run off-lead under voice control, with the separate small and large dog zones taking the tension out of mixed-size visits. Amenities cover water stations for dogs, agility features, shaded seating for owners and a BBQ area, and roughly 460 metres of internal footpaths wind through the grounds if you want to walk while the dog explores. Poop bags and bins are provided and cleaning up is expected.

Worth knowing

The fence is for containment, not supervision, so keep an eye on your dog throughout, particularly where children and dogs share the large-dog area. The park is newly built and the young trees do not give much shade yet, so midday summer visits run hot; plan for the cooler parts of the day in the warmer months. Public toilets sit nearby.

Getting there and parking

Access is via Tompsitt Drive and the South Jerrabomberra estate roads. There is a dedicated 23-space car park on site. There is no meaningful public transport to the gate, so drive from Queanbeyan or Canberra's south.
