Bavarchi is a Hyderabad-style Indian kitchen in Canberra's Hume industrial precinct, and it makes the ACT Government's own list of dog-friendly food spots in the capital. If you work out that way or you're chasing a proper biryani lunch with the dog along, the outdoor tables are where you'll both be sitting.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor seating, not inside the dining room. The furniture is standard outdoor fare rather than anything dog specific, so bring a mat or portable bed if your dog likes a defined spot, and pack a water bowl since bowls and treats are not guaranteed on site. Keep your dog leashed and settled at your feet while you eat.

The vibe

This is no-fuss dining with a following that stretches well past the industrial estate; the biryani is the drawcard, and the kitchen also does South Indian catering. Word travels, so outdoor tables can fill at peak lunch. The doors are open weekdays from 6am to 3pm and closed on weekends, which makes it a working-week stop rather than a Saturday brunch plan. A quiet weekday lunch is the easiest time to get a table with a dog in tow.

Getting there and parking

Bavarchi sits in the Hume industrial area off Sawmill Circuit, about 15 minutes south of Civic. Free off-street parking is usually available right out front, so there is no circling the block with a dog waiting in the car.
