The Scar

The Scar is a fully fenced, off-leash dog park on Southbar Road in Karabar, serving the wider Queanbeyan area. It has separate sections for big and small dogs, an open flat field for running, and a friendly base of local regulars, making it one of the better-equipped off-leash spots in the region.

The rules. Dogs can run off-leash inside the fenced sections provided they are under effective control. Entry is via double-gated gates, so leash your dog again before opening the first gate to stop any bolting. Waste bags and bins are supplied on site.

What's there. The park has a water fountain for dogs and owners, a small agility obstacle course, and seating for owners. Shade is limited across the open field, so on hot days it is worth timing your visit for early morning or evening.

Getting there. The Scar is at Lot 2 Southbar Road, Karabar, near the intersection with Henderson Road and close to the Karabar shops. Parking is free, and local Queanbeyan bus routes pass through the area.

Watch-outs. The big dog section can get boisterous when busy, particularly in the late afternoon and on weekends, so keep a close eye on smaller or timid dogs and consider the small dog section if yours prefers a calmer pace.

Weekday mornings are the quietest time to visit if your dog is easily overwhelmed. Bring water regardless of season, since there is little natural shade once you're out on the field.
