Derinya Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Derinya Reserve on Derinya Drive is a quiet, scenic off-leash spot in Frankston South, mixing an open grassy area with walking paths through remnant grassy woodland. It covers about 1.2 hectares of natural terrain, and it is a low-key local reserve better suited to older dogs and easy socialising than to big crowds.

The dog setup

Dogs run off-leash in the designated roam-free zone under effective voice or hand control, with a leash carried at all times. The area is not fenced, so keep your dog off the neighbouring private bushland and out of any non-designated zones, and leash up within 10 metres of play equipment or organised sport. The council preserves the reserve's indigenous grassy woodland, so treat the vegetation as habitat rather than a sniffing free-for-all.

Facilities are deliberately minimal: no bins on site, so bags and waste go home with you, and no water tap, so bring a bottle and bowl. Parking is along the road, and the walking tracks through the trees make this a decent drizzle-day option when the beach is a wash-out.

This is a nature-focused neighbourhood reserve rather than a developed sporting park, and the regulars are locals from the surrounding streets. Late afternoon from about 4 to 6pm and weekend mornings are the busier windows; a weekday midday visit often means the whole reserve to yourself.

The reserve sits at 22R Derinya Drive, Frankston South VIC 3199, with on-street parking along the frontage. The nearest buses run along Nepean Highway and nearby streets such as Towerhill Road, a short walk away.
