Clarke Reserve Off-Leash Park

Clarke Reserve is a leafy off-leash park on the corner of Head Street and Ormond Esplanade, looking out over Elwood Beach. It is a City of Port Phillip off-leash reserve with open grass and mature shade trees, handy for a run before or after the foreshore.

The rules. Dogs may be off-leash provided they are under effective control, meaning they return on command, stay in view and do not bother other people or dogs. You must carry a leash. Dogs are not allowed within 5 metres of the playground, and greyhounds must stay on-leash even in the off-leash area. Clean up after your dog using the bins provided.

What's there. Bench seating, dog waste bins and good shade from the mature trees. There are no public toilets in the park itself, though the beach amenities are close.

Getting there. Free street parking on the surrounding streets, though it fills on fine days. Buses run along Ormond Esplanade, and it is a short walk from the foreshore path.

Nearby with the dogs. The beach is directly across the road, and the Ormond Esplanade cafes are a short stroll, so you can pair the park with a coffee and a beach walk.

When to go. Busiest on weekend mornings from 9am to noon and on weekday mornings around 7.30 to 9am. For a quieter visit try a weekday afternoon or after 5pm. If your dog is wary of children, keep to the wider open areas away from the playground. Good for a quick off-leash burn beside the bay.
