Plain Sailing Elwood

Plain Sailing is a busy brunch cafe at 144 Ormond Road in Elwood, a few minutes from the foreshore, and dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables. It opens 7am weekdays and 7:30am weekends, closing mid afternoon, and it is walk-in only, so timing matters with a dog in tow.

The dog setup

Dogs settle in at the footpath and courtyard tables out front while the indoor dining stays humans only. Staff are genuinely welcoming and often have treats on hand, and water bowls appear without much prompting. Shaded tables are the ones to aim for in summer.

The catch is space: this is one of the busier tables-in-Elwood operations and the outdoor section fills fast on weekend mornings. Arrive early or be prepared to wait with the dog on the footpath.

The vibe

The kitchen leans into proper brunch: smashed avo, chilli scramble and pulled pork plates, with gluten free options covered and coffee that holds its own. Service is quick and warm even at peak, though the room hums rather than soothes.

Getting there

Ormond Road is the main strip through Elwood, with metered street parking out front and in the residential streets behind. It is walkable for most of Elwood, and the 67 tram along Brighton Road puts you a short walk away.

While you're out there

Elwood Beach Dog Off Leash Area is the obvious run either side of breakfast, and M.O. Moran Reserve Fenced Dog Park gives you a fully fenced option if your dog needs containment. Jerrys Milkbar up Ormond Road is the classic alternative for a takeaway round.
