Croudace Bay Dog Park

Croudace Bay Dog Park sits within the Thomas H. Halton Park precinct on Macquarie Drive at Eleebana, a large lakeside reserve on the shores of Lake Macquarie. The reason to make the trip is direct lakefront access: flat grass for running, then calm shallows for a swim, with a dedicated fenced dog area at the southern end of the park.

The dog setup

Lake Macquarie City Council runs the precinct on timed rules, so check the signage on the day before unclipping. The fenced dog exercise area at the southern end is the secure option, while the broader off-leash sections of the reserve generally run from sunrise to 10am daily, plus 4:30pm to sunset on weekdays.

Dogs stay on lead within 10 metres of the playground and barbecue areas, and on the bushland track between Bareki Road and the shared path. Wherever you are, your dog needs to be under effective control, and aggressive dogs must be leashed or removed. Waste bags and bins are provided, and cleanup is mandatory.

Worth knowing

The barrier around the dog area does not fully enclose the entire reserve, with gaps near the water edge, so solid recall matters before you let go. The terrain is flat and grassy with natural shade, and the lakefront is usually calm, though shallow mudflats show at low tide. Water taps and bowls for dogs, picnic tables, barbecues, restrooms and a children's playground are all in the wider park.

Getting there

The precinct sits off Macquarie Drive at Eleebana, with parking close to the foreshore and the reserve open around the clock. Early mornings fall inside the off-leash window and are the quietest, while the lakeside setting makes late afternoon a popular time even when leashes are technically required.

Pepsi: a flat run straight into calm lake water is hard to beat. Just check the mudflats at low tide before sending your dog barrelling in.
