Speers Point Fenced Dog Park

Speers Point Fenced Dog Park is a 10,000 square metre fully enclosed off-leash area inside Speers Point Park on the Lake Macquarie foreshore, sitting right next to the lake path and a strip of dog-friendly cafes. It is one of the largest fenced runs on the lake's southern shore.

The dog setup

The fenced area is leash-free around the clock, with boundary shade trees, a covered seating area, three agility stations, a water fountain for dogs and owners, and grassed picnic tables inside the fence. Shade is limited in parts and the ground can turn boggy after heavy rain.

Lake Macquarie City Council rules apply: keep a leash with you, supervise at all times under effective control, and leash and remove any dog showing harassing or aggressive behaviour. Declared dangerous, menacing or restricted breeds are not permitted. Off-leash outside the fence can draw a $330 fine, so the rest of Speers Point Park stays on-lead, including the playground precinct.

Pepsi: pick the covered tables on a summer afternoon and let the agility stations wear your dog out. After rain, expect puddles and a dog that needs a rinse before the car ride home.

Getting there

The park is at the end of Creek Reserve Road in Speers Point, with ample free parking across the wider Speers Point Park precinct, though it fills on sunny weekends. Bus stops on Main Road at Boolaroo are a five to ten minute walk, and the site connects straight into the Lake Macquarie shared walking and cycling path network.

Close by with the dogs

Table 1 Espresso Speers Point sits inside the park and Harry and Lola's is at the Multi-Arts Pavilion, both used to dogs dropping in post-play. Lena's Cafe and Bar at Warners Bay is a short drive along the esplanade.
