Hamlin Street Fenced Dog Park

Hamlin Street Fenced Dog Park is a small, fully fenced off-leash park on the corner of Fitzwilliam Drive and Hamlin Street in Doreen, in the Laurimar estate. It is compact rather than sprawling, roughly a 30 metre square, but secure double-gated entries make it a reliable spot for a quick off-leash run or a training session with no risk of a dog bolting.

The rules

Dogs may run off-leash inside the fence under City of Whittlesea rules, provided they respond to voice control and are supervised. The double gates are there to stop dogs slipping out while others arrive, so use both. There is no bag dispenser on site, so bring your own bags and take them to the bins.

What's there

The park splits in two: a grassed area on the western side and a gravel agility zone on the east with a course of seven obstacles, including weave poles. There is a park seat and rubbish bins. Shade and water are the weak points, with no tap on site and only community bowls when someone leaves one, so bring a bottle and a bowl, especially on warm days.

Max: this one is compact, so a full dog feels crowded fast if two or three big groups arrive at once. If it's packed on arrival, a lap of the block and a second look often pays off.

Getting there and parking

It sits inside the residential Laurimar estate and is easiest by car, with free street parking nearby. Local bus routes along Painted Hills Road leave a short walk, but nothing stops at the gate.

Close by with the dogs

Laurimar Town Centre is a short drive or a longer walk away: Appret Cafe and Laurimar Espresso Bar both welcome dogs outside. If the compact yard is crowded, Creek Park Fenced Dog Park at Mernda is the bigger alternative, and Hurstbridge Dog Park sits over the creek side.

When to go

After work and weekend mornings are the busy windows in a park this size; mid-morning on a weekday usually means having the yard to yourself. The gravel half drains well, so it stays usable after rain.
