Donvale Reserve #2

Donvale Reserve is a large open-space park behind Donvale Primary School, set back from the bustle of Springvale Road in Manningham's east. The dog draw is a designated off-leash area across open grass and mature trees, with on-site parking and a proper suburban park around it. It is a relaxed everyday running spot rather than a purpose-built dog park, and it works best for dogs with a reasonable recall.

The dog setup

Dogs are off-leash in the designated area only, under Manningham City Council's effective control requirement, so a reliable voice command matters. The reserve itself is not fully fenced, and the council's 15 metre rule puts the lead back on near the playground, barbecues and any organised sport or training on the ovals. Dogs are allowed on the fenced sports ground when no game is on, but the carpark and the path around the oval stay on-leash. Bins are provided, and you are expected to carry bags. Bring water, because there is no reliable dog tap.

The vibe

This is a local park with a mix of open grass and tree shade rather than agility gear or separate small-dog yards. The partial fencing is the one real caveat: the edges toward the oval path and carpark are where a roamer or chaser needs watching. Mid-morning on a weekday is generally quiet, while weekends and late afternoons pull in the neighbourhood dog crowd.

Max: the off-leash area is only partly fenced, with the oval path and carpark on-lead. If your dog chases or roams, work the middle of the reserve and unclip away from those edges.

Getting there and parking

Access is via Noonan Way off Springvale Road, with an on-site carpark right by the reserve. Buses run along Springvale Road within walking distance of the entrance, and the park sits behind the primary school, so time your visit outside pick-up and drop-off if you want the quieter corners.

Close by with the dogs

If partial fencing is a dealbreaker, the Aranga Reserve Fenced Dog Park on Eastway Avenue is the local fully fenced option, with double gates and a small-dog yard. For something slower, the Bucks Walking Trail adds an on-lead leg through the suburb.
