The basics. Zerbes Reserve off Saxonwood Drive is a neighbourhood off-leash area in Doncaster East with a useful quirk: a shaded pine grove that stays relatively dry and clean through winter, when the open sports fields turn muddy. It mixes open grass for running with treed space for sniffing.

The rules. Dogs run off-lead under effective control across the open space and pine grove. The reserve is only partly fenced, so good recall matters near the edges. On-lead within 15 metres of play equipment, permanent barbecue facilities, and any organised sporting event, function or public meeting. Bin all waste.

What's there. Natural shade from the pines, picnic tables, a playground, toilets and rubbish bins. There is no dedicated dog water point, so bring your own bowl. On-site parking via Saxonwood Drive.

Getting there. Access is from Saxonwood Drive, off Blackburn Road. Local Manningham buses run along Blackburn Road and nearby streets.

When to go. Busiest on weekday mornings and across the weekend; quieter mid-week mornings and Thursday evenings. The pine grove is the pick in wet weather. Good for dogs that want shade and a drier surface when other reserves are boggy.
