Point Park Dog Off-leash Area

Point Park is a fenced, off-leash grassy area on River Esplanade in the Yarra's Edge precinct of Docklands, right on the Yarra River with a clear view back to the Melbourne skyline. It is one of the few enclosed off-leash spots in inner Docklands, which makes it a reliable option if your dog needs to run without a lead.

The rules. Off-leash use is generally allowed at all times unless signage on site says otherwise. Dogs need to be under effective voice or hand-signal control and kept within about 50 metres of their owner. Keep at least 20 metres from any playground equipment and 20 metres from cycling paths unless there is a fence at least 1.2 metres high separating you. Carry a lead and clean up after your dog.

What's there. There are water bowls on site, along with benches and maintained grass. The area is mostly but not completely enclosed, so keep an eye on boundary gaps rather than assuming full containment.

Getting there. The address is River Esplanade, Docklands VIC 3008. On-street parking along River Esplanade is limited. By tram, the closest stops are along Flinders Street or Collins Street, followed by a walk across the Yarra pedestrian bridge. It also connects to the Capital City Trail for anyone walking in from nearby.

Nearby with the dogs. A handful of cafes along the NewQuay and Victoria Harbour promenades have outdoor seating that welcomes dogs, and 1 Hotel Melbourne nearby takes dogs for overnight stays. Confirm current dog policies before you arrive, as cafe rules change.

Weekday mornings and evenings (roughly 7 to 9am and 5 to 7pm) plus Saturday mornings are the busiest times. Mid-week middle of the day is quieter and better suited to a shy or reactive dog. Good for owners who want a proper off-leash run without leaving the Docklands waterfront.
