Gibb Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Gibb Reserve is an open, unfenced off-leash park on Blair Street in Dallas, a straightforward Hume suburb spot for a run rather than a destination park. It sits next to a playground and an outdoor gym, so it doubles as a family stop, with open grass big enough for fetch and basic training work.

The dog setup

Hume City Council requires dogs to be under effective control by voice or hand signal at all times and to stay within 50 metres of their owner. Within 20 metres of the playground or the cycling path, dogs must be back on lead. Council allows a maximum of two dogs per person, and you are expected to carry bags and use the bins provided. There is no fence around the reserve, so everything here leans on recall; it is better suited to dogs that come back reliably than to new or nervy ones.

Max: keep new dogs on a long line until you know they will listen. There is a lot of open space here and nothing between your dog and the next street if recall fails.

Getting there and parking

The reserve is at 215 Blair Street, Dallas, with free street parking and a wheelchair-accessible parking spot nearby. Coolaroo station on the Craigieburn line is within walking distance, which makes a train-and-walk visit realistic. The playground and outdoor gym next door make it an easy combined outing with kids in tow.

Worth knowing

Weekdays and Saturday mornings are the quiet stretches; Sunday mornings and the Tuesday and Thursday evening slots draw the local regulars. The grass holds up well but gets no shade in the middle, so summer visits are best early or late. After the run, Gate House Cafe is a short drive away for coffee.
