Le Page Park Dog Off Leash Area

Le Page Park on Argus Street, Cheltenham is a large open sporting reserve where the Western Oval doubles as the off-leash area within strict hours. Flat, open grass with real shade and an easy car park makes it a good fit for a high-energy dog, provided you mind the clock.

The time rules

Off-leash on the Western Oval runs from 5pm to 10am under City of Kingston rules. Outside that window, and everywhere else in the park, dogs must be on-lead, and dogs always stay at least 20 metres clear of playgrounds and BBQ areas.

Max: Two things to watch here, the clock and the open gates. Off-leash ends at 10am sharp, and the oval is not enclosed, so keep distractible dogs toward the middle and away from the road side.

Fencing and control

The oval is only partly fenced, with open gates and standard sports boundary rails rather than a proper enclosure, so solid voice control and a carried leash do the real work. Check for active sports use before you settle in, because the reserve serves its clubs first.

What's there

You get a big car park with around 140 spaces, drinking fountains, seating and picnic tables, plus a rebound wall that doubles as a fetch target. Kingston's master planning flags future upgrades for the reserve, including a dedicated dog area, so the set-up may improve.

Getting there and parking

The park is at 79A Argus Street, near the Kingston Road and Bay Road intersection, and the large car park makes access easy, though this is mostly a drive-to park. Local buses service the nearby streets.
