The Unleashed Dog Exercise Area occupies a corner of Lowanna Park on Wilfred Avenue, Chatswood, a few minutes' walk from the Chatswood CBD yet tucked into a quiet residential pocket near Greville Street and Fullers Road. For apartment dwellers in one of Sydney's densest centres, this fenced run is the local answer to a back yard.

The dog setup

Off-leash hours run from 3pm through to 11am the following morning, every day of the week, which is a time-share arrangement that keeps the space clear during midday sporting and picnic use. Between 11am and 3pm, the lead goes back on. The exercise area is fenced, but treat the boundary as a backstop rather than a guarantee: keep your dog within sight, carry a lead, and stay on top of recall. Dogs are excluded from the children's playground and the BBQ and picnic zones elsewhere in the park, and waste goes in the bins provided.

A local neighbourhood crowd rather than a destination park: evening regulars after 3pm and morning walkers before 11am are the core users, with weekends busier across the board. The mid-morning weekday slot inside off-leash hours tends to be the calmest if your dog needs room to settle. The ground gets muddy after heavy rain, so expect a paw wash on wet weeks.

Max: the 3pm switch is the trap here. Arrive at 12.30pm on a Saturday and you are on-lead for the next ninety minutes, so plan around the window.

Street parking lines Wilfred Avenue and the surrounding residential streets, with accessible parking close to the site. Being so close to the Chatswood interchange, it is an easy stop on the way home from work.

Shaded seating gives owners somewhere to settle, and public restrooms sit nearby within the broader park. Willoughby council's standard exclusions apply: unregistered dogs and animals declared dangerous or menacing are barred from off-leash areas. Because the space is modest in size, it fills quickly during the evening peak, and pushy ball games can crowd out smaller dogs.
