Kendall Reserve is a fully fenced off-leash dog park at the southern end of Cabarita Park, right by the Parramatta River foreshore in Sydney's Canada Bay area. It is a solid, no-fuss option for a proper off-leash run in a secure yard, with grass, sand and dirt underfoot and mature trees for shade.

The rules. Dogs must be leashed on the way in and out of the fenced zone, then let off once you are through the gate. Keep dogs under effective control and supervised at all times, and note the handler limit of four dogs per person. Aggressive or antisocial behaviour means leashing up and leaving straight away. Bring your own waste bags and take everything with you.

What's there. The fenced area has water stations for dogs and shaded seating for owners. It sits next to the wider Cabarita Park, which has a playground and public barbecues if you want to make a morning of it with the family.

The ground gets muddy after rain given the mix of sand and dirt, so keep a towel or rag in the car for paws before they get back in.

Getting there. Access is off Cabarita Road. There is parking nearby but it fills quickly on weekends, so get in early. The Cabarita Ferry Wharf at d'Albora Marina is an easy walk from the park if you would rather come by water, and several bus routes run along Cabarita Road.

When to go: weekday afternoons are quieter and easier for a calm run. Weekends, especially Sunday mornings, draw a crowd, so turn up early if you want the space to yourself. Good for dogs that are confident off-leash around other dogs, given the open, social layout.
