Majors Bay Reserve runs off-leash 24 hours a day, seven days a week in its designated northern section, a broad stretch of waterfront parkland off Nullawarra Avenue in Concord. The draw is space: open grassy fields with Parramatta River frontage, room to run long and throw far. The catch is that it is completely unfenced and opens straight onto paths, sports areas and the water, so this one rewards a dog with solid recall.
The rules. The off-leash zone is the northern section only; dogs must be on-leash everywhere else in the reserve, and especially near the sporting fields when games are on. Effective control applies at all times off-leash. Pick up after your dog (penalties apply under the Companion Animals Act 1998) and keep dogs registered and identified.
What's there. Water stations, poo-bag dispensers and bins, picnic tables and benches for owners, and public toilets in the wider reserve. The mix of open field and water frontage suits both runners and dogs who like a paddle.
Getting there. Access is via Nullawarra Avenue, with free on-site parking that fills fast on weekend mornings. Arrive before 9am on a Saturday or Sunday to get a spot in the main car park. Concord West train station is a moderate walk, and local buses run along nearby streets.
Watch-outs. Because it is unfenced, keep an eye on your dog near the water and the pathway boundaries. Low tide exposes mudflats along the frontage, so mind muddy paws and avoid letting dogs into unsafe water.

When to go. Weekday evenings and weekend mornings are busiest. Early on a weekday is calmest and easiest for parking. Good for high-energy dogs with reliable recall who want a proper run.
