Opossum Creek Parklands Fenced Dog Park

Opossum Creek Parklands Fenced Dog Park sits at 58 Scoparia Drive in Brookwater, with separate fully fenced enclosures for large and small dogs set inside a wider creekside parkland managed by Ipswich City Council. The fencing is the drawcard: a genuine contained off-leash run rather than a shared open field, with an on-leash creek walk on tap afterwards.

The dog setup

Two separate fully fenced enclosures split large and small dogs, with water taps for the dogs, waste bins and bag dispensers, and shaded seating with gazebos in the large dog section. The small dog enclosure has little to no shade, so factor that into timing on hot days. Agility features give the run some structure, and owners are expected to stay inside with their dog, keep effective control, and leash and remove any dog that turns aggressive.

Max: if you have a small dog, go early or late in summer. The small enclosure has barely any shade and the fence line offers nothing to hide under once the sun is up.

Worth knowing

Off-leash applies only inside the two enclosures; everywhere else in the parklands, including the walking paths along the creek, dogs stay on lead. Keep the double gates shut behind you. Kangaroos are regulars in the surrounding bushland, which is a nice backdrop but a good reason to keep recall solid at the gates. The wider parkland adds a playground, exercise stations, barbecues and public toilets near the parking area if you are making a morning of it.

Getting there and parking

Come in via Brookwater Drive or Scrubby Road onto Scoparia Drive; street parking near the entrance is usually easy outside weekend peaks. Springfield Central is the nearest train station, but that means a short drive or connecting bus rather than a walkable link, so this is a car trip for most visitors.

Springfield Lakes Dog Park is a few minutes back towards the lake with its own fenced run, and Sirius Fenced Dog Park is another Springfield Central option. For coffee, Remedy Espresso Cafe on Springfield Lakes Boulevard is a relaxed stop with outdoor seating.
