Dendy Park Dog Off Leash Area

Dendy Park in Brighton East is a large, open reserve on Dacey Street with plenty of grassy space, mature trees for shade and multiple sporting ovals, making it one of the bigger off-leash options in the Bayside area. It is a shared-use reserve rather than an enclosed dog park, so the trade-off for all that room is staying on top of the boundaries and the sport fixtures.

The dog setup

Dogs can run off-leash in the park's designated areas provided they are under effective voice control with an immediate recall. Stay at least 20 metres from playgrounds, barbecues, picnic areas and any organised sport or training session in progress. The north-east section around the tennis courts and bowling club is on-leash only, and the lead goes back on in all car parks. Your dog needs to wear its current Bayside registration tag, and you are required to carry bags; bins sit around the park including near the wooded south-east corner.

Max: watch for organised training on the ovals. Dogs need to stay well clear even when they are off-leash elsewhere in the park.

The vibe

Weekend mornings and weekday evenings after 5pm are busiest, when local sports teams train and the regular dogs come through. Weekday mornings and early afternoons are quieter if you want more open space. Multiple soccer ovals, shaded tree lines and toilets near the main oval make it workable even on warmer days.

Getting there and parking

The park is on Dacey Street, Brighton East, with parking at several points around the reserve. Local bus routes run along the surrounding main roads, and Brighton Beach and Patterson stations are the nearest trains, a moderate walk or short drive away. If you are driving, remember the leash goes on before you cross the car park, which is enforced like any other on-leash zone.

Close by with the dogs

Sandown Street Beach and the Brighton Beach off-leash area put a swim on the end of a park morning, outside Bayside's summer restricted hours. Brighton Fenced Dog Park is the fully enclosed alternative nearby, and Merrymen on Hampton Street does a good coffee after.
