Wishart Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Wishart Reserve is a fully fenced, off-leash dog park in Hampton East, sitting just off Nepean Highway. If you want a secure, enclosed space where your dog can run without you worrying about traffic or escape routes, this is the practical, no-fuss option in Bayside.

The rules. Dogs can be off leash inside the fenced enclosure only. Outside the fence, including the nearby playground, it is on-leash at all times. Dogs must remain under effective voice command even inside the park. Any dog showing aggression must be leashed and removed immediately. Owners are responsible for keeping gates closed and must clean up after their dogs - bins are provided on site.

What is there. The park was renovated and now includes a mix of open grass, trees, and varied terrain to keep dogs moving. There is a sandpit for digging, plus agility equipment such as tunnels and bridges. Two water stations with dog-friendly bowls are available, and seating benches are scattered around for owners. A separate pedestrian path leads in from Bluff Road.

Getting there. Street parking is available on Wishart Street but can fill up during peak times, given the proximity to Nepean Highway. Hampton train station is roughly a 10 to 15 minute walk away. You can also reach the park on foot via residential streets and the Bluff Road pedestrian path.

Watch-outs. Shade is limited, which makes midday visits in peak summer uncomfortable for both dogs and owners. The terrain can get muddy after rain, so bring towels for the drive home. The double-gated airlock entries help prevent dogs slipping out, but you still need to be deliberate about closing each gate behind you.

Nearby with the dogs. For a coffee afterwards, Paperboy Coffee Bar - Hampton and Lennox are both solid picks. If your dog still has energy to burn and you want a change of scene, Dog Friendly Beach Sandringham Harbour offers an off-leash waterfront option a short drive south.

When to go. Weekdays are busiest early morning and late afternoon, roughly 4 to 6 pm. Weekend crowds peak mid-morning. For a quieter session, aim for late morning or midday when the regulars have already headed home. Avoid the midday slot in summer, as the lack of shade makes it tough on dogs.
