Wishart Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Wishart Reserve's dog off-leash area is the practical, no-fuss fenced park for Hampton East, a short hop off Nepean Highway and managed by Bayside City Council. The enclosure has been renovated, so expect newer equipment, fresh landscaping and a layout built around keeping dogs contained rather than hoping they stay put.

The dog setup

The western section of the reserve is fully fenced, with double-gated airlock entries so nobody slips out while you open the second gate. Inside there is open grass with varied terrain and new tree planting, a sandpit built for diggers, and agility equipment including tunnels and bridges. Two water stations have low dog-friendly bowls, bins are provided, and benches are scattered for the owners. The playground next door sits outside the fence, so leads go back on the moment you step out.

Off-leash applies inside the enclosure only. Even within the fence, dogs stay under effective voice command, owners carry a leash at all times, and any dog showing aggression is leashed and removed immediately. Waste bins sit inside the park.

Worth knowing

Pepsi: the airlock only works if you close each gate deliberately behind you. Do not trust the self-closer; give it a pull on the way through.

Shade is limited, which makes midday summer visits hard going for everyone, and the ground turns muddy after rain, so a towel for the car is worth stashing. A separate pedestrian path runs in from Bluff Road along the southern boundary, keeping the walk in clear of the car side.

Getting there and parking

Street parking on Wishart Street is closest, though it can fill at peak times given the highway proximity. Hampton station is a 10 to 15 minute walk, and the Bluff Road footpath gives pedestrians a direct route in.

While you're out there

After the run, Paperboy Coffee Bar and Lennox in Hampton are easy coffee stops a few minutes away. If your dog still has fuel to burn, Sandringham Harbour dog beach offers an off-leash waterfront option a short drive south.
