Brighton Fenced Dog Park

Brighton Fenced Dog Park gives the town north of Hobart something it never had before: a purpose-built, fully enclosed off-leash space where a kelpie can burn off a full tank and a shy terrier can keep to its own corner. It sits on Seymour Street inside the Ted Jeffries Memorial Park precinct, and it has quickly become the default stop for Brighton locals with dogs.

The dog setup

The park is fenced on all sides with a double-gated entry, so there is no dash for the road when someone arrives mid-session. Inside, separate sections split big dogs from small dogs, which matters if your dog falls into either the boisterous or the nervous category. There is a water tap with bowls, a doggy bag dispenser beside the waste bins, and a shelter with a table for owners who settle in. The paths are designed to be accessible, so it works for people with mobility needs too.

The rules are the standard fenced-park contract: dogs run off-leash only inside the enclosure, owners stay in with them, waste goes in the bins straight away, and any dog showing aggression gets removed immediately.

Max: Walk the fence line before you unclip. A few owners have flagged narrow gaps underneath the fencing in places, and a determined digger will find them faster than you think.

The vibe

This is an open grass site with limited natural shade, so it bakes on summer afternoons. Bring water in the warm months and aim for mornings. Weekday early mornings and late afternoons draw the regulars, weekends are busiest mid-morning, and a weekday late morning is your best bet for a quiet run.

Getting there and parking

Brighton sits roughly 25 minutes north of Hobart on the Midland Highway, and the park is on Seymour Street once you turn off the main drag. Most people drive, with street parking along Seymour Street the easy option. Local bus services run through Brighton and drop you within a short walk.

While you're out there

If the session goes long, the Jordan River Trail at Pontville is a short drive up the highway for an on-leash leg stretch, and the Dromedary walk at Bridgewater covers the river flats the other way.
