Haig Park Dog Agility Course

Haig Park is a long, tree-lined heritage park running through the middle of Braddon, and tucked into it is a small dog agility course with a scattering of obstacles to keep an energetic dog busy. The defining catch: the agility area sits in open parkland with roads close by, so it suits dogs with reliable recall rather than first-timers off the lead.

The rules. Haig Park has designated off-leash sections, but on-leash rules apply across the rest of the park, and the boundaries are not always obvious on the ground. Check the signage on arrival and keep your dog on lead until you are sure you are inside the off-leash zone. The agility area itself is unfenced and the park borders busy streets, so good recall matters. Pick up after your dog; bins are provided.

What's there. A set of agility obstacles for exercise and play, mature trees for shade through the warmer months, and seating dotted along the park. Haig Park also hosts regular community dog events, so you may find the space busier and more social on event days.

Getting there. The park runs along the Braddon edge near Girrahween and Wattle Streets. There is free street parking on the surrounding side streets, and the Canberra light rail runs close by, with a stop a short walk away. If you are staying in Braddon or Civic, it is an easy walk in.

When to go. Weekday mornings and mid-afternoons are the quietest. Weekend mornings, weekday evenings after work, and scheduled dog event days draw the biggest crowds. Good for a city dog that needs a sniff and a stretch between cafe stops, less so for a dog you cannot recall reliably.
