B-Side

B-Side is a compact day cafe and wine bar on Lonsdale Street in Braddon, pouring coffee roasted locally by Intra and running a short, considered brunch menu. For dog owners it doubles as a front-row footpath seat on one of Canberra's busiest cafe strips.

The dog setup

Dogs sit at the outdoor footpath tables; the compact interior stays people only. The footpath run is close-packed, so it suits smaller dogs, or larger ones happy to settle quietly beside the table rather than sprawl. Staff are welcoming and water is usually available, but bringing your own bowl removes any doubt.

Worth knowing

The menu is deliberately short: anchovy and tomato toast, peas on toast, good sourdough, plus matcha and milk coffees. It moves from day cafe to wine bar as the day goes on, so morning visits are the calmer window. This is a busy strip venue rather than a quiet one, and a dog that is comfortable around foot traffic will have the better time of the two of you.

Getting there and parking

The address is 27 Lonsdale Street, a short walk from Civic. Street parking on Lonsdale and Elouera Streets is limited and paid, with parking stations nearby as a backup. Haig Park is a few minutes away on foot, which makes an on-lead loop either side of brunch easy to fit in.

Close by with the dogs

Braddon's cafe strip has no shortage of dog-friendly tables: Supersweet Cafe and Casa Espresso both sit within a block or two. For something more structured, the Haig Park dog agility course runs along the northern edge of the park, and The Civic Pub covers the beer-garden end of the day.
