Casa Espresso is a hearty, early-opening breakfast cafe at the Civic end of Lonsdale Street in Braddon, built around solid coffee and a bagel-and-eggs menu. It turns up on local dog-friendly cafe lists, and the appeal is the same as the rest of the strip: footpath seating in a precinct made for walking.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor footpath tables, with both sunny and shaded spots depending on the day; inside is for people only. The cafe is known to be accommodating, and water bowls are usually available, but pack a collapsible bowl and a few treats so you are covered either way.

Good to know. The kitchen does breakfast classics well, bacon and egg bagels, eggs benedict, big wraps, poached eggs, with a long black or matcha alongside. It opens early, which makes it a good first stop before the strip wakes up.

Getting there. On Lonsdale Street with street parking on Lonsdale and nearby Mort Street that fills quickly at peak. The light rail Elouera Street stop is a 200 to 300 metre walk. Haig Park and the Sullivans Creek path are both close for a walk before or after.

Best early, both for a quiet footpath table and to beat the parking crunch.
