Bean Stalker

Bean Stalker is a compact specialty coffee shop at 2 Cole Street, one street back from the Nelson Place waterfront in Williamstown, and it treats coffee as the main event: expertly pulled espresso, rotating specialty beans and seasonal cold infusions, with flaky pastries and light bites alongside. For dog owners mid-foreshore-walk it is the ideal grab-a-table stop, with front seating that welcomes pups and water bowls usually put out.

The dog setup

Dogs join you at the outdoor seating out the front of the tiny shop, which is really a coffee counter rather than a full kitchen, so plan for a caffeine-and-pastry stop rather than a brunch sitting. Check with staff before bringing a dog up near the counter; the footpath tables are the dog zone. Locals walking the waterfront circuit use it as a regular midway pause.

Worth knowing

The cafe runs Monday to Friday from 6:30am to 2pm and weekends from 7am to 2pm. On Friday and Saturday nights the same room turns into Bean Stalker After Dark, a pop-up cocktail bar, which tells you something about how seriously this little shop takes its drinks program in both directions.

Getting there

It is a short walk from Williamstown station, with street parking on Cole Street and nearby blocks subject to signed time limits. The Nelson Place strip and the foreshore reserve are around the corner on foot.

Close by with the dogs

The Cyril Curtain Reserve off-leash area on The Esplanade is the standout: an 800-metre foreshore stretch with rockpools dogs can splash in, and Gloucester Reserve adds more unrestricted off-leash space nearby. For a swim session, the Altona Beach dog off-leash arena has fenced sand and land zones plus dog-rinse showers, and the Williamstown Fenced Dog Park covers secure runs.
