Butters West Leederville

Butters is a family-owned cafe at 29 St Leonards Avenue, West Leederville, that runs espresso and brunch by day and turns into a small wine bar on Thursday to Sunday evenings. It is a genuinely dog-welcoming spot rather than a footpath-only one: dogs are welcome in the shaded garden courtyard at the front, and staff are known to wave them inside too, which makes it a rare all-weather choice for Perth dog owners.

The dog setup

The front garden courtyard is the dog zone: shaded, plant-filled and roomy enough that larger groups with dogs in tow fit without blocking the path. Water bowls are generally out in the outdoor area, and because seating mixes indoor and outdoor, keep your dog settled and out of the thoroughfare between tables. On cold or wet days staff have been known to allow dogs in the cosy indoor room, but confirm on the day.

Worth knowing

The brunch menu carries the reputation, with fritters, waffles, halloumi dishes, eggs benedict and smoothie bowls the regular mentions, poured with Black Matter coffee. From Thursday the second act begins: wine, share plates and a relaxed evening crowd, with service running to 10pm on Friday and Saturday nights. If you are planning the evening sitting with your dog, call ahead, because indoor dog access for dinner is not the same guarantee as courtyard access at breakfast.

Butters sits on St Leonards Avenue between the Subiaco and West Leederville residential blocks, with free street parking usually available on the avenue and nearby streets. It is an easy walk from West Leederville station for anyone arriving without the car.
