Gelo-Lab

Gelo-Lab is an artisanal gelato shop at 125 to 127 Watton Street in Werribee, churning small batches in-house daily. It is a grab-a-scoop-and-keep-walking spot rather than a sit-down cafe, which suits a warm-evening lap of the main strip with the dog on the lead.

The dog setup

Dogs are not permitted indoors, in line with food-safety rules, but they are welcome with you at the footpath seating out front. There is no dog-specific gelato on the menu, so bring a travel bowl and water on warmer nights and settle in outside with your own scoop.

The vibe

The gelato leans traditional: pistachio, nocciola and salted caramel among the classics, with a reputation for dense, rich texture. The shop shares its precinct with the wider Il Matto dining operation, so the strip gets busy on weekend evenings; a weekday visit is the relaxed version.

Getting there and parking

Watton Street is the main Werribee strip, with free street parking along it, though weekend nights tighten up. Werribee station is roughly a 500 to 600 metre walk, so a train-then-stroll visit works too. Service runs from late morning, with later close on Friday through Sunday.
