UE Bagels - Varsity Lakes

UE Bagels is the Gold Coast's dedicated bagel shop, boiling and baking its house-made rounds daily at shop 6, 482 Scottsdale Drive in Varsity Lakes. It made the Urban List's round-up of the coast's best dog-friendly cafes, and the covered footpath tables out front are where dogs join the queue.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor seating along the frontage, on a lead, with the relaxed industrial-fitout interior staying humans-only. Staff are easy with dogs but the morning rush is real, so bring your own bowl as backup and keep your dog clear of the order line.

The vibe and the menu

The bagels are the point: hand-stretched and rolled fresh daily, then boiled and baked New York style. The breaky bagel with bacon, egg and house sauces is the signature order, the lox with cured salmon, cream cheese and capers is the classic, and the Reuben with hot silverside and sauerkraut has a local following. Vegan fillings and a gluten-free bagel range that is genuinely hard to find elsewhere round it out, with specialty coffee alongside. Hours run 6am to 1pm weekdays and 7am to noon Saturdays, closed Sundays, so it is strictly a morning stop.

Getting there and parking

Scottsdale Drive runs through the Varsity Lakes commercial pocket near Robina, and street parking is close by but tight in the morning rush, with side streets as the fallback and a short walk in. The Lake Orr boardwalk loop is nearby for a post-bagel leg stretch with the dog on a lead.

Make a day of it

The fenced run at Frascott Park Fenced Dog Park is minutes away and the natural pairing, with Robina Common Fenced Dog Park covering the northern side. For a second stop, Tarte Bakery & Cafe at Burleigh Heads is a short drive for the pastry crowd. Tallebudgera Creek's off-leash beach stretch sits further south for a swim finish.
