Shaka Hut Hervey Bay

Shaka Hut is a small coffee hut at 446 Esplanade in Torquay, Hervey Bay, set back from the beach strip beside the public swimming pool car park. It runs on cold brew poured from the tap, using beans from Seven Miles, and backs it with acai bowls, toasted jaffles, matcha and smoothies. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating, which makes it an easy low-key stop on a foreshore walk.

The dog setup

The seating is a handful of casual outdoor spots beside the hut, so a settled dog on lead fits in without fuss. Water is not confirmed on site, so bring your own bowl. The hut also hosts local markets, thrift mornings and wellness pop-ups, which adds atmosphere on event days but means a quieter visit is more likely on a plain weekday morning.

Worth knowing

Trading hours sit at 6:30am to 1pm Wednesday to Saturday and 7am to 1pm Sunday, with the shutters typically down early in the week; event days can shift things, so a quick check of the Instagram page before you set off is worth it. It is a coffee-and-vibe stop rather than a full kitchen, and the cold brew on tap is the thing locals actually cross town for.

Getting there and parking

Park in the swimming pool car park or along Beach Terrace and it is a short walk in. The Esplanade path runs straight past, so walkers and cyclists coming down the coast from Scarness will pass the door without detouring.

Nearby with the dogs

The foreshore path in front of the hut is the natural warm-up, and Scarness beach Dogs off leash 24/7 area a little south along the bay is the designated all-hours off-lead sand. Urangan Public dog park covers the grassy option at the far end of the bay, and Cody's Coffee Shack on the Esplanade is a second dog friendly pour nearby.
