Jillys Cafe

Jillys has been on Margaret Street since 1990, which in cafe years makes it a Toowoomba institution, and it has kept a soft spot for dogs the whole way through. The footpath tables out front are where you and the dog sit, in the middle of the CBD strip.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor seating on the Margaret Street footpath. Water bowls are usually on hand, and the cafe regularly posts visiting dogs with puppuccinos on its socials, so a treat is easy to arrange. Leashes secure simply beside the footpath tables; inside is people only.

Worth knowing

The kitchen does classic Australian cafe breakfasts and lunches with generous portions, from eggs benedict and the breaky stack to the steak sandwich, with carrot cake and smoothies for the extras. It runs 8am to 3pm Monday to Saturday and 8am to 2pm Sunday, and mornings are its strong suit.

Getting there and parking

The cafe is at 181 Margaret Street on the main CBD strip. On-street parking is available but busy; the council car parks off Clifford Street and around the CBD are the better bet for a longer stay.

Close by with the dogs

The Queens Park Dog Off Leash Area is a short drive east for a run on the way out of town, and Harris Park at Highfields adds a fenced southern section if you are heading north. For a second coffee, Ortem is a couple of blocks away.

Max: this is a footpath-table operation, so a dog that can lie flat under a chair while the CBD walks past is the ideal candidate. The puppuccino seals it.
