The House of Yiros

The House of Yiros is a casual, family-run Greek spot on Margaret Street in the Toowoomba City CBD, built around flame-grilled lamb, chicken and pork yiros. Dogs are welcome at the footpath tables out front, so a quick, relaxed lunch with the dog parked beside you is an easy move here.

The dog setup

Dogs join you at the outdoor footpath dining along Margaret Street; the indoor room is counter service for people only. Keep the dog on a short lead tucked in beside your table so pedestrians can pass on the footpath. Water bowls are not a listed feature, so bring a collapsible bowl, though the staff are known to be friendly to dogs.

Worth knowing

This is yiros done the classic way: meat off the vertical grill, wrapped in pita with salad and chips, plus souvlaki plates. There is a solid run of vegetarian and vegan dishes, salads and sides as well. Service is quick and casual, and portions run generous. Hours run 11am to 8pm Monday to Thursday, with the kitchen trading late on Friday and Saturday nights, and it closes Sundays. Aim for a just-before-noon arrival for the calmest footpath table.

Getting there and parking

The address is Shop A, 195 Margaret Street, in the Toowoomba City CBD. Margaret Street parking is time-limited, so parking on a quieter side street such as Neil or Hume and walking in is often easier with a dog in tow.

Close by with the dogs

Queens Park is a short walk north, and the Queens Park Dog Off Leash Area gives you a proper run around after lunch. If the yiros turns into a longer outing, Park House Cafe sits across from the park, and Urth Cafe & Co is a short stroll down Margaret Street with alfresco tables of its own.
