The Pialligo Bakesmith

The Pialligo Bakesmith is a garden-set cafe and artisan bakery on Beltana Road in Pialligo, the horticultural pocket between Canberra city and the airport. The combination explains its pull: house-made viennoiserie and cinnamon buns from the bakery side, a full brunch and lunch menu from the kitchen, and leafy garden tables where dogs are a common sight rather than a rare concession.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome throughout the outdoor garden area and covered deck, where tables sit surrounded by greenery and there is genuine space between settings. Dogs are restricted to the outdoor spaces, so on a wet day the plan changes rather than the table. Staff typically provide water bowls, and the relaxed garden traffic suits a settled dog. Book ahead for weekend brunch if you want a guaranteed garden table; walk-ins work better midweek.

From the ovens

The cinnamon buns and pastries are the drawcard, and the kitchen backs them up with salmon benedict, chilli scramble, french toast, ratatouille and the boulangerie potato, with vegan and vegetarian options well covered. Doors open 8am to 4pm daily. Weekend late mornings run at capacity, so the early table is the calm one.

The Bakesmith is at 5/12 Beltana Road, Pialligo, reached by car from Canberra city or Queanbeyan via the airport corridor. Free on-site parking sits alongside street parking on Beltana Road, and the venue is wheelchair accessible.

While you're out there
