The Bearded Baristaa

The Bearded Baristaa sits on Barwon Park Road in St Peters, directly across from Sydney Park, and its own site states the position plainly: dog-friendly and proud. The outdoor seating side faces the park, so dogs are part of the furniture rather than an exception to manage. It opens 7am to 3pm every day of the week, which covers both the early shift and a late breakfast.

The menu is toastie-forward and more interesting than the average counter: a zaatar bagel, a pulled beef toastie, a reuben and a halloumi mushroom toastie are the signatures, and the coffee holds its own against anything on the inner south circuit. There is a steady takeaway trade from the park crowd as well. Sydney Park does the rest, because a dog-friendly cafe opposite one of the area's most-used green spaces solves the morning in one stop.

Worth knowing

Sydney Park's general rules keep dogs on leash on the lawns and paths, with a dedicated fenced area within the park for off-leash play, and weekends see the outdoor seats taken early. Street parking on Barwon Park Road and the surrounding lanes runs in short cycles, so arriving before 8am saves a loop. The dining room is small; the footpath side is where dogs and most of the regulars end up.

While you're out there

The dog park circuit around the inner south is close. Enmore Fenced Dog Park and Harry Noble Reserve in Erskineville are both a short drive west and work as an off-leash stop either side of coffee.
