Carriage Cafe Seville

The Carriage Cafe serves breakfast, lunch and cakes out of a restored vintage railway carriage sitting directly on the Warburton Rail Trail at Seville. For dog owners the case is straightforward: dogs are welcome across the outdoor areas, and the trail out front means you can break up a walk or ride without anyone being left in the car.

The dog setup

Dogs join you on the alfresco platform and the surrounding lawn, with water bowls put out and tie-up points if you need to step away. Dogs stay out of the historic carriage itself, the usual arrangement for a food venue. Because the trail side is traffic free, you are not seating a nervous dog next to a busy road.

The vibe

The carriage seating is the novelty and the scones and milkshakes are the repeat orders. It runs a Yarra Valley cafe menu with a country setting, and the weekend hours are the longest: 8am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday, 9am to 3pm Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, closed Monday and Wednesday.

Pepsi: the lawn is the spot on a warm day, and the trail out front means a proper run either side of breakfast. Weekends fill up, so a weekday visit gets you the carriage to yourselves.

Getting there

The cafe is at 1/139 Station Street, Seville, about an hour east of Melbourne in the Yarra Valley, with on-site parking. Walkers and cyclists can arrive straight off the Warburton Rail Trail, which passes the door.

The trail itself is the pairing: the Warburton Rail Trail Lilydale to Seville section runs straight past the carriage. For an off-lead stretch, the Seville Recreational Reserve Dog Off Leash Area is minutes away, and Branded Burgers and Bar on the highway covers a dog-friendly dinner option.
